Date: 7th May 2025
Day: Wednesday
Venue: Biodiversity Park, FTI (Uttarakhand Forestry Training Academy) , Haldwani
An educational trip to the Biodiversity Park was organized by WhiteHall School for Grade 8 students. The aim of the visit was to help understand the importance of biodiversity and the need to conserve natural habitats.
The Biodiversity Park in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, is a 18-acre park showcasing diverse plant life and ecological zones. It features 40 unique sections, including a "Sarv Dharma Vatika" (a garden with trees sacred in various religions) and a "Jurassic Garden" with living plant fossils. The park also includes a soil museum and a vermicompost unit, aiming to educate the public about biodiversity and conservation.
While walking through the park, various types of trees, medicinal plants, shrubs, and colorful flowers were shown. Many birds were also spotted during the walk. The guide explained how each species plays a unique role in maintaining the balance of nature. The various species of plants have been brought to the park from diverse terrains like Niti Mana Valley and even from some glaciers around Kedarnath. The park houses Jurassic era lichens, mosses, algae and ferns as well as huge trees like banyan and ashoka which are linked with Gautam Buddha’s life. The park also showcases the different kinds of soil found in various topographies of Uttarakhand — alpine, bhabhar, sub mountainous, mountainous, tertiary, loam, terai.
One of the highlights of the visit was the butterfly pollination garden, aquatic garden, cactus garden, zurrasic park and interpretation centre.
Students also visited a small information center where posters and models displayed the variety and animals and birds.
The visit was not only educational but also a refreshing experience. Everyone enjoyed being close to nature, and it helped us to understand the real meaning of conservation , taught valuable lessons about biodiversity, conservation, and the importance of living in harmony with nature and returned with a deeper appreciation of the natural world and a strong message:
Nourish nature, nurture life, and keep the cycle going.
