Model United Nations Conference
The
Model United Nations is a set of programs that are implemented across the
nation and the
globe
with the aim of advancing knowledge about the UN, enlightening participants
about global
issues,
and advancing peace and the UN's work through collaboration and diplomacy. The
students
of
Whitehall School had the privilege of attending a Model United Nations
conference at Little
Scholars
School, Kashipur, from 26th of April to 28th of April, these three days in
Model UN
conferences
fostered the development of many different types of talents in each of the
students
including
cooperation, persuasive and expository writing and negotiation—skills crucial
for one's
own
growth and future success. Many prominent figures in the legal, political,
corporate, and artistic
spheres
today—including those at the UN itself—participated in Model UN as students.
The
first day, ie., 26th April started with the opening ceremony, the host school
warmly welcomed
all
the participating schools with some delightful performances, including a
soulful Saraswati
Vandana,
energetic fusion dance and a motivating speech by Ted X Speaker, Mr. Deep
Nagpal,
followed
by a briefing on the conference by Mr. Prashant Nagpal.
The
second day was marked by the onset of debate and discussion in the various
committees -
AIPPM,
UNSC, G-77, UN Women, UNODC, IPL Auctions, and Superheroes Conclave. Where the
students
took on the roles of delegates, speakers, and chairs, representing different
countries and
worked
together with other students from different backgrounds to take part in
discussions and
reach
a solution for the agenda they were assigned. The participants were invigorated
by the
enthusiasm
of all the delegates. It was an enriching learning experience for the students
as it
brought
together diverse opinions of an increasingly interdependent world to make
collective
decisions
for the betterment of all.
The
last day was all about challenging other delegates and drafting as well as
passing significant
resolutions
regarding the agendas and collectively looking for solutions, it indeed
provided an
interactive
educational experience that inculcated in the students a sense of collective
responsibility
and
collaboration in an interesting and enjoyable way. It was followed by the
closing ceremony
which
was a feast to the soul as some nostalgic melodies were played by the school
band. Lastly, Mr
Prashant
Nagpal announced the results, Angel Bhola, grade XII D won the High
Commendation in the
AIPPM
Committee and Aashish Dalakoti of grade X B won the verbal mention in the
Superheroes
Conclave.
The whole experience was rather rewarding and empowering for all the students
as they
helped
the students work on their skills of negotiation, conflict resolution,
cooperation and research
analysis.
