A Field Trip to Kumaon Woolens
On 23rd April, the
students of Grade 9 from Whitehall School visited Kumaon Woollens as part of an
educational field trip. The visit aimed to provide students with practical
exposure to local industries and traditional handicrafts.
During the visit,
students learned about the process of manufacturing woollen products such as
shawls and tweed. They observed various stages including weaving, designing,
and finishing. The staff explained how raw wool is transformed into
high-quality products using both traditional techniques and modern methods.
Students also gained
insight into the importance of promoting local craftsmanship and supporting
self-reliant initiatives. The visit highlighted how the industry provides
employment opportunities to local people and contributes to the regional
economy.
As a gesture of
gratitude, the students presented the Whitehall School souvenir to Mr. Tandon,
the owner, thanking him for his guidance and hospitality during the visit.
The trip was
informative and engaging, helping students connect classroom learning with
real-life applications. It encouraged appreciation for indigenous skills and
sustainable production practices.
Overall, the field trip
was a valuable learning experience for all students.
