Floriculture Visit

On 22 April, 2026, the students of Grade 9A visited a floriculture farm at Naya Gaon, Kaladhungi, Haldwani, as part of an educational excursion. The primary objective of the visit was to provide practical exposure to the scientific and commercial aspects of flower cultivation.

Floriculture is a specialized branch of horticulture that focuses on the commercial cultivation, marketing, and arrangement of flowering and ornamental plants. It plays a significant role in meeting the growing demand for flowers used in decoration, gifting, perfumes, and export purposes.

During the visit, students were introduced to advanced and scientific methods of floriculture. They gained insight into polyhouse cultivation, systematic irrigation, nutrient management, and effective pest control measures. The experts at the farm explained how these techniques enhance productivity, ensure superior quality, and support large-scale production for both domestic use and export.

A major highlight of the visit was the observation of a variety of flowers grown under controlled conditions in polyhouses. Students closely examined flowers such as lilies (Lilium), peony, rajnigandha (tuberose), and gladiolus. They understood how maintaining optimal temperature, humidity, and light conditions contributes to the healthy growth of plants.

The visit also highlighted the economic importance of floriculture. Flowers are widely used for decoration, especially in weddings and social functions. Additionally, the export of high-quality flowers contributes significantly to the economy and global trade.

The interaction with farm experts encouraged curiosity and active participation among students, making the learning experience engaging and insightful. The visit strengthened their understanding of scientific flower cultivation and increased their interest in this field.

Overall, the visit was highly informative and enriching. It broadened the students’ knowledge and inspired a deeper appreciation for floriculture and its growing importance.
